Óiche
Shamhna, Óiche Shamhna…….. Halloween week is almost upon us, as the good weather
shortens the term. We had different
activities allied with the curriculum ongoing ‘ar scoil’ which are worth noting, during this term.
Rang V1 agus Rang V are partaking in a ‘Discover Primary
Science’. Rang V agus Rang V1 enjoyed
and benefited greatly from The Lismore Experience. A science workshop for both classes involving
electricity and light was a very worthwhile and educational experience. Co-ordinated by Caitríona Ní Riada. Buíochas
mór.
Quiz: Two teams from the school participated in
Muintir na Tire Quiz in Inch and performed with distinction.
Peil: Buachaillí
agus cailiní had the opportunity to travel and play for our school teams in Scitha
na Scol football leagues and Mini 7’s.
Their coaches Ailbhe agus Eoin are very pleased with their progress and
have brought the teams to a competitive level. Obair agus allas!!.
Luthcleasaiocht: Over sixty
pupils were brought to Conna for Long distance running and competed very
well Buíochas mór le Ailbhe agus Áine.
Ealaíon: Páistí agus múinteoirí put a lot of effort
into various Art Competitions – Credit Union, Walter Raleigh agus Youghal Faith
Week. Buíochas mór le múinteoir Cáit Mhic Inneirí, co-ordinator.
Cód
Iompair: Over the coming weeks you will
receive a copy of the school’s - Code of
Conduct. You are asked to read it and keep it at home for future
reference. You are asked to sign and
return the contract leaflet to your class teacher. Pupils in fifth and sixth also need to sign
and return a written under taking to uphold and respect the Code of Conduct.
Parents
Council: A new parents Council was
formed at the AGM in September.
Its Chairperson is Sharon Murphy. Runaí is Stephanie
Murray. Cisteoir is Sharon Hennessy. The
Parents Council is comprised of 10-12 parents who meed and work in a voluntary
capacity on behalf of the parental body in school. In essence it is working for you and your
child – formulating policies in conjunction with staff and supporting the Bord
Bainistíochta which manages the school. It liaises with school management
regarding activities at school, e.g. is part funding a science workshop this
week for Rang V agus Rang V1. You can
support your child at school by supporting Parents’ Council activities. Buíochas.
A beautiful ‘Císte na Samhna’ can be yours!!. Donated and
cooked by Marie O’ Connor. €2 line
ticeadaí. Please Support – Go raibh
maith agat.

place on Tuesday 25ú Meán Fómhair. It is

role in your child’s educational well-being.

urge all interested parents to attend. Beidh fáilte romhat.

School life is in full swing as we approach our third week
back at school. Children love routine
and in general love school life with all its various activities, and work
routine.
Obair
Bhaile: Homework is a feature of school life, it is a good discipline for your
child and reinforces their work at school.
The time spent on ‘obair bhaile’ will increase as your child moves along
the school cycle from ‘naíonáin bheaga’ go ‘Rang VI’. We try to ensure that homework given is
feasible within a certain time frame.
You may wish to liaise with your child’s class teacher if they are
experiencing major difficulty in completing their homework. Ensure that your child is in a quiet
environment doing ‘obair bhaile’ with no distractions.
Cumarsáid:
Communication can be effectively and simply done best via your child’s ‘Dialann
Scoile’ or homework journal.
Communication by phone should be reserved for urgent reasons only. A meeting can be arranged, by mutual consent,
for pressing matters or any complex issues that might arise. In general we find that the homework journal
works well and effectively (Rang 1 go Rang VI).
Daily interaction in the infant classes will suffice.
School
sundries amount to €70. The school is a
non-project organization, but your child needs to be supported in the area of
arts and crafts, photocopying and general school activities. Thanking all parents who have paid the
above. If you have more than two
children attending the school consult your class teacher. As outlined above your child needs your
support in a financial sense at school.
All monies go toward the acquisition of basic materials in the artistic
and dramatic fields. Staggered payments
are acceptable for larger families. A
special Go raibh maith agat arís if you have already done so.
Gaelscoilíocht: We always
endeavour to make our school a ‘gaelscoil’. Usáid ‘an cupla focal’ abairtí
(sentences) or engage in conversation as Gaeilge with your child/teacher,
moreover in the school environs. We all have to play our part to make Gaeilge a
‘living language’ for the present generation.
‘Tá sé breá inniu’ -
It’s fine today
“Brostaigh’ -
Hurry!!
‘Tóg bog é’ – Take it easy.

Oscailt Oifigiúil: Buíochas to all concerned, who helped to make the official opening of our new rooms a successful one. Our own Criostóir Ó Cuana, who was in his last few weeks of office as Uachtarán C.L.G did the official opening. All members of the school community were present in the hall on Marta 22ú on a mementus day that was celebrated by pupils, parents, staff and management. Míle buíochas arís.
Comhneartú: Rang VI and their múinteoir Caitríona Ní Riada had their own special day when they received the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Holy Family Church on Marta 23ú. A great parish day was celebrated by all concerned.
An Chéad Chomaoine: Preparations for an Chéad Chomaoine le Rang 11 are in full swing with pupils and their múinteoirí Jean Uí Mhurchú agus Póilín Ní Ghrifín. This takes place in the Holy Family Church on May 12ú at 10.30am.
Bainne: Milk is nutritious and essential for growing young bodies. It is available at a subsidized cost of €10 for this term.
Safety - Bí Slán: When collecting your child at 1.40pm, parents of junior and senior infants are asked to be extremely vigilant as we all want to avoid any fatalities or serious injury. Do not let your child run ahead of you, unaccompanied. Their hands should be held at ages 4 – 7. Any social interaction should be held inside the railings, not while your child runs ahead into danger of oncoming traffic. We owe it to our children to mind them properly coming and moreover leaving school. If crossing the road use the services of our excellent road warden. Be Safe-Be Slán.
Parking: Once again we ask you to use common sense when parking in the school environs. Residents live in the Monastery Apartments. Please do not obstruct their entrance. Relate this to any grandparent/au pair or to whoever may be collecting your child. Parking at their entrance is very unfair to those living there and the school is the recipient of regular legitimate complaints and numerous phone calls from residents who cannot enter/leave their homes!! Lets all co-operate to avoid the above.
As part of Cystic Fibrosis Awareness week, one of our sixth class pupils Ben Mac Cárthaigh is organizing a bun sale (3/4 buns €2) on tomorrow Thursday 3ú in aid of C.F. Thanking you in advance for your support.
Lá Saoire Bainc Bealtaine: This is May Bank Holiday week end. School is closed on Friday 4ú agus Monday 7ú next. Bainigí taitneamh as.

Rás Urraithe: Thanking all those parents and pupils who supported the sponsored ‘Predict the Teachers Time’ race card in Ballycotton 10 mile road race. Monies raised will help to payoff some of the outstanding building balance which stands in the region of €12,000 at present. Míle buíochas le Ailbhe Ní Loingsigh, múinteoir, who ran the ten miles. Graffiti Theatre Company will perform An Fear Siúil/ The Walking Man in the school hall on Monday/Tuesday next. The Walking Man is a charming allegory which will captivate the audience.
With the help of an original live music score, the actor brings us into the world of the Walking Man.
It explores issues of kindness and empathy
- develops listening and observational skills
- nurtures a sense of balance and mindfulness.
Táimid cinnte go mbainfidh do pháiste taitneamh agus tairbhe as.
