A Cháirde,

After three weeks of school re-opening, the school community is now well adjusted to the daily routine of earlier mornings and school life.

Thanking all parents of Naíonáin Bheaga in particular whose children have started school for the first time.  Fostering a sense of independence in your child is so important and all a part of growing up. Thanking all parents who inculcate a sense of independence in their child i.e. allowing your child to go into their classroom on their own, finding their own seat and playing with their friends etc.

Leabhra:  The book rental scheme was availed of by 99% of pupils from Rang 111 go Rang V1. It continues to be very successful and a money saver for the families involved.

C.L.G. As a gaelscoil the school supports all sports and C.L.G. in particular.  Cailiní agus buachaillí are participating in a Sciath na Scol football league at present. Our boys hurling team were runners up in a hurling final last June.  Buíochas to all the staff who support same, both in re-vamping their timetable agus d’Ailbhe, Alf, Barra agus Comhordaí Spoirt Eoin Ó Siochrú who are actively involved in the training and travelling with our school teams.

The school will be participating in East Cork Athletics in Conna on Aoine 27ú Meán Fómhair.

Carthanacht:  Charity begins at home – a big thank you to all who supported the Phil’s Road Run (in aid of cancer treatment equipment for the Mercy Hospital). Our county colours day raised €467. A sincere thank you to all concerned.  Míle Buíochas.

Comhairle na dTuistí/Parents Council A.G.M takes place in the school hall on Máirt/Tuesday 1st October at 8.00pm.  The Parents Council comprises of pro-active parents representing parents of different classes throughout the school.  The council meet every 5/6 weeks to discuss various ways of supporting our children attending Gaelscoil Choráin.  The Parents Council liaises with management on school issues and activities and is an integral part of our school structure.  Parents are encouraged to participate and thanking all who give voluntarily of their time and energy.

Rang VI represent the school tomorrow night in the Inch Harvest Festival Quiz, with pupils Shauna Ní Fhoghlú, Sorcha de Barra, Jordan Lupton agus Caitlín de Londra.   Entry fee and costs borne by the School Cultural Fund.

Sábháltacht Scoile: Safety of our children is paramount both at home and at school.  Our internal school security system will be in operation to safeguard our pupils and the school community.  To maximize valuable educational time, kindly avoid unnecessary class interruptions by communicating  via the school journal.  Phone calls should be used only when essential.  Forgotten items i.e. sports equipment, coats can be left at the school entrance/offices area.  Try and avoid class interruptions.  If a person not usually collecting your child, identification may be asked for. Ensure that you notify the class teacher of any alternative arrangements of being collected by someone other than yourself or their usual minder.

Road Safety: Show your child how to cross the road properly – Look right, look left and right again.  Never at a bend!!

Parking: Whilst parking is extremely problematic we will have to make the best of a difficult situation. Patience is required.  Kindly do not park outside the monastery apartments.  Residents need to enter/exit freely.  Lets all work in a spirit of co-operation for the betterment of our younger generation.

Ní neart go cur le chéile.

Samhradh samhradh………… bainne na ngamhna…thugamar féin an samhradh linn are the lyrics of amhrán gaelach as summer weather arrives at last.  School activities were many and varied looking back over the school year.

Cursaí Spóirt: Ghlac na páistí páirt i lúchchleasaíocht i gConna.  A large contingent of páistí were brought to Conna for a great day of athletic activities and medal winners.  Buíochas le Ailbhe agus Áine ar an lá.  Cumann Lúth Chleas Gael is an integral component of school life, where children are coached in the skills if our national games péil agus iomáint. School teams participated in Mini -7’s in both hurling and football codes.  The highlight and culmination of everybodys’ effort was reaching the Sciath na Scol Final, Roinn H4. We came off second best but a memorable milestone for the young players involved.  Buíochas ar leith d’ Eoin, Alf agus John Parker, for their dedication and hard work.

Cursaí Ceoil: After school guitar lessons proved to be very popular with páistí under the tutelage of Jean agus Caoimhín. Búiochas.
Vox Merus (members of RTE Light Orchestra) presented a brass workshop. A further workshop involving percussion instruments was a resounding success.  Buíochas don Comordaí Ceoil, Jean.

Cuairteoirí: Special visitors to the school were accorded a Céad Míle Fáilte, Special Olympics medal winner Orla Barry, Cork Ladies All-Ireland Winning Team and the Mayor of County Cork, our own Barbara Murray.  Song, dance and words of praise made for a memorable assemblies in the school hall.

Comhneartú agus An Chéad Chomaoine were two major highlights in the spiritual journey of pupils who received the sacraments.  Hard practice made for perfection and we congratulate the pupils, their parents agus a múinteoirí Caitríona, Póilín agus Eoin. Comhghairdeas.

Ealáion: Gaelscoil Choráin won a plethora of prizes in our Youghal Credit Union Poster Competition, spreagaithe ag na múinteoirí eagsúla  agus an Comhordorí  Ealáin. Cait   Literary prizes were achieved by pupils in various classes.

Coirm Cheoil na Nollag was an outstanding success. Mór bhuíochas ard mhalodh tuillte ag an bhfoireann teagaise.

Comhairle na dTuistí: Thanking all members of the Parents’ Council who gave voluntarily of their time and energy during the year, helping in various ways – from policy matters to an ‘cupán tae’.

Obair Ranga: Above are only some of the highlights of the school year.  The most important formation of your child’s education takes place in the classroom, under the direction of your child’s class teacher.  Projects, essays, poems, mathematical concepts with lots of oral work in all subject areas.  Gaelscoil Choráin’s Sten –Scores were higher than the national average!! (See trend graph on display on rear notice board).

An Teanga: Tá an fhoireann teagaise fíor – bhrodúil as caighdéan cainte na bpáistí.  Oral Irish is a core element of any gaelscoil.  Our pupils are bilingual from an early stage and by the time they leave the junior classes can hold a fully fledged conversation as Gaeilge.  Enriched and polished in middle and senior classes to an honours oral standard.  Encourage its use during holidays, T.G. 4, Radio na Gaeltachta, with friends, family and summer courses.

Tháinig Árd Mhéara Chontae Chorcaí ar cuairt chugainn inné. Bhí sí an-dheas. Labhair sí leis na páistí ar feadh tamall fada. Bhí gach éinne sásta nuair a fuair siad obair bhaile saor.
