Eolas Scoile

A lot of positive school activities were undertaken during the school term. Oftentimes good news tends to be overlooked, so here is a brief summary of various events that were on-going during the current term.

Sciath na Scol: Our school teams are participating in an inter-schools league, playing different schools in Cork City and County. The age profile of our team is quite young. They are gaining valuable experience under their coaches, Alf, Barra agus Eoin. An obair ar siúl.

Giotár: Weekly guitar classes (after school) are as popular as ever. Beginner and advanced classes are ongoing under the tutelage of Jean agus Caoimhín. An obair go deo. Rang VI visited ‘Lifetime Lab’ i gCorcaigh and are now busily preparing for the Sacrment of Confirmation on Wednesday, April 30th, with múinteoir Caitríona. Likewise Rang 11 are busily preparing for An Chéad Chomaoine with múinteoir Caoimhín.

Carthanacht: In keeping with the school ethos of Lent, míle buíochas or a thousand thanks to all the school community for supporting the following events:
 • ‘Rás Ailbhe’ a goat is now helping an impoverished African Family in conjunction with Bothar.
 • ‘Chernobyl Chicks’ are now available €2 insan scoil. Monies raised will help bring children to Ireland for a short holiday. Thanking you for your anticipated support. We are conscious of the demands made on you regarding various causes, all of which need funding. We can only do our best in this regard. Buíochas arís.
 • C.L.G./Youghal GAA Club are holding a Family Table Quiz on Sunday 13th April in Club-Áras 5-7pm. Book your table by calling Áine Martin on 087-7641081. All proceeds go to ‘Busy for Izzy Fund’
• ‘Busy for Izzy’ Day raised €630 euro, co-ordinated by muinteoir Hanóra.

Ceol: We had two musical workshops, last term. A drum workshop with Wassa-Wassa involved every pupil in the school. An uillinn pipes and veudhlín workshop with Matt Cratnech was also extremely successful. Rang IV agus Rang V received singing tutelage in conjunction with a cultural fund to develop amhránaíocht lán ghaelach, le Caitríona Ní Ghealbháin. Over twenty children partook in Scór na bPáistí, in singing, dancing agus recitation, with considerable success. Buíochas to co-ordinators Jean agus Cáit.

Cúrsaí Ealaíne. Thanks to all our budding “Picassos”, we are keeping the art flag flying here in Gaelscoil Choráin. In addition to the many varied art activities that the “daltaí” are involved in on a weekly basis in the classrooms, we are proud to say that many of our “scoláirí” have taken part in several art competitions. It is refreshing to witness the creativity flourishing in young minds and we encourage this very important aspect of their development. Among the competitions in which the children have taken part, we have had many winners in ‘The Sherkin Island Environmental Art Competition’, ‘Youghal Credit Union Art Competition’ and ‘Blackwater Garden Centre Art Competition’. Our Role of Honour includes : Jordan Lupton, Séamas Ó Maitiú, Ruairí Mac Gearailt, Niamh Ni Fhlaithimhín, Millie Ní Luasaigh, Cait Ní Lochlainn, Denise Nic Inneirí, Óisín Ó Cathasaigh, Daire Ó Floinn, Erika Ní Chadhain, Maisie Buttimer, Cara Nic Eachaidh, Ross ó Ceallaigh, Treasa Nic Inneirí, Ciarán Ó Raghallaigh agus Rúbaí Dewick.
